The underlying data is compiled from freely available lists of postcodes and geographic data, merged with postcode data from various mailing lists to fill in the gaps. You should not rely on this information for commercial purposes (or, indeed, any purposes at all other than curiosity).
Please don't write applications to screen-scrape data from this page. If you just want the underlying data to use in your own applications (but note the above disclaimer!), you can download a gzip file of the MySQL database dump.
